Artistic microbiography of Marianne Catroux:
I was born and grew up in a village in the Médoc region, near Bordeaux. My childhood was filled with little metallic objects, an attic where slept trunks abound of old tissues, old houses full of real treasures (trophies from adventures more and more distant!)…
My studies in art schools made me move from Bordeaux to Paris then to Toulouse, where I've been living since 1991. I've been exhibiting my work for ten years now in France (Midi-Pyrénées, Aquitaine), Germany (Berlin, Pirna, Lassan, Dresde) and also in Burkina Faso (Bobo Dioulasso and Ouagadougou) for an artistic meeting.
I associate painting (acrylics, gouache) to collage technique. The elements assembled in my works were discovered in flea markets, second hand stalls, scrap merchants or even on the seashore… These objects, witnesses of the people they accompanied, bear memories on which I inscribe my own stories while offering to the spectator the freedom to imagine their own. My wish is to provoke sensitive reactions by the creation of links between the past, the spectator and myself.
